View source for Joy-Pi - Pi-Hole

== Summary ==

Short writeup of using the Joy-Pi case with a Pi-Hole installation, used e.g. for the Open House demo

== Requirements ==

* Operating system: latest Raspbian
* Packages: pihole

== Description ==

=== Step 1 ===

Install Raspbian and pihole according to their respective documentations

[https://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/raspbian/ Raspbian]
[https://pi-hole.net/ Pi-Hole]

=== Step 2 ===

Currently the Raspi is configured to use the eduroam Wifi. In order to do so, modify the /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf as follows:

<pre>ctrl_interface=DIR=/var/run/wpa_supplicant GROUP=netdev
update_config=1
country=AT

network={
   ssid="eduroam"
   proto=RSN
   key_mgmt=WPA-EAP
   eap=PEAP
   identity="USER@HOST"
   password="PASSWORD"
   phase1="peaplabel=0"
   phase2="auth=MSCHAPV2"
}</pre>

Since there is a bug in the wpa_supplicant >= 2.8 when trying to connect to enterprise Wifis, downgrade to 2.4 or later, under
[https://packages.debian.org/stretch/armhf/wpasupplicant/download wpa_supplicant for Raspberry Pi]

Connect using
<pre>sudo wpa_supplicant -i wlan0 -c /etc/wpa_supplicant/wpa_supplicant.conf</pre>

There is a Bash script in the /home/pi directory, periodically circling through different webpages (just using wget in an infinite while loop).

Access the Pi-Hole Frontend under pi.hole/admin

=== Step 3 ===

To use some of the demos from the Joy-Pi Script Package ([https://joy-it.net/files/files/Produkte/RB-JoyPi/Joy-Pi.zip Joy-Pi.zip]), namely those for the 7-segment and Matrix LEDs:

* Activate I2C and SPI <pre> sudo raspi-config -> 5 Interfacing Options, enable SPI, enable I2C </pre>
* For the 7-segment display: install the Adafruit Python LED Backpack Package ([https://github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_Python_LED_Backpack Adafruit])
* For the Matrix LED: install the Luma LED-Matrix package ([https://luma-led-matrix.readthedocs.io/en/latest/install.html Luma])
